Feeling the Blues

Hello, hello! Its finally the weekend so I can get some time to do some much needed cardmaking therapy! 

Today I'm sharing with you a card I am thinking of sending to a friend who needs some cheering up. Now, I am a sucker for puns and play on words so I loved this sentiment and it gave me the inspiration for the color theme for this card. 

You will need:

Stamps/Dies:

- Prized Peony Stamp set

- Boho Indigo stamp and die set

- Ornate layer die set

Cardstock

 - Night of Navy card base standard size  14.9cm x 10.5cm or 5 1/4" x 4"   

- Whisper White Card layer x 2 (1 for the card insert)  14.1cm x 10cm or 5" x 3 3/4"

- Small piece of Night of Navy cut out using the ornate layers die (pictured below) for the sentiment. 

- Small piece of Night of Navy and vellum to cut out the ferns from the Boho Indigo Dies (pictured below)

As usual, I like to do the stamping first. Now, the colours for Prized Peony are usually pinks and greys. But for this card, I really wanted to use the "sorry you're feeling blue" sentiment from the Boho Indigo set. So I went with Night of Navy (I also think that the Misty Moonlight color would also work with this card).

Grabbing my first Whisper White cardstock layer, I stamped the entire piece in Night of Navy ink with the middle size peony stamp in the set. Now can you spot where I made a little boo boo? hahaha Some how I had this blank space that I had to fill with some leaves because I could not fit the peony. Ooopppss.. But at least it made it easy for me to decide where to place my sentiment. 😃

Next I grabbed a piece of Night of Navy big enough for me to cut it out, using one of the ornate dies. I then stamped my sentiment from the Boho Indigo Stamp set  "sorry you are feeling blue" in versamark ink. Using my heat tool, I set it with some white embossing powder. I just love white on blue. 

The final pieces I will need to assemble the card is some leaves/fern. Now since I had the Boho Indigo die set out, I used the ferns from that set. I LOVE these!!!  They cut and emboss details onto the leaves at the same time. Hopefully you can see it in this picture. I also cut out a couple of extra pieces in some vellum cardstock as well.

Once I had die cut all those pieces, it was just a matter of playing around to arrange them in a way that I liked. I found it was easier to use mini glue dots to stick these to the back of the sentiment. 

So grabbing the Whisper White layer that was stamped with the peonies, I used liquid glue to adhere this to the Night of Navy card base.

Dimensionals were then used to stick the sentiment to the top of Whisper White layer. And we are done! I loved the way it turned out. 

I did stamp another layer of the Whisper White cardstock with the same peony stamp in the bottom right hand corner and used that as my card insert (see first picture at the start) and also on the envelope so we had a nice matching set.
